Women and Water

Women and Water program

Our Women and Water program aims to understand gender roles and their influence on managing the world’s water. Through the program, we consider the importance of perspectives and inclusion of marginalised groups in advancing Integrated River Basin Management—particularly given that women in the developing world play decisive roles in managing water at the family level. A forum is held at each year’s International Riversymposium and European River Symposium for both men and women to discuss perspectives on rivers, gender and culture towards a more equitable future.

Our next Women and Water event will be held on Sunday 17 September 2017, in conjunction with the 20th International Riversymposium and Environmental Flows Conference in Brisbane, Australia.

We also award the Vera Thiess Fellowship for Women, which aims to advance the role of women in river basin management.
