What is river resilience?

The capacity of a river system and its associated communities to quickly recover from disturbances, adapt to changes without collapsing, and transform through innovation and implementation of resilience strategies.

Resilience has traditionally been considered to be the ability of a system to resist change and then recover from disturbances. The pace of change has been accelerating and the almost constant disturbance regimes that rivers are facing has created a need for resilience.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Resilient Rivers Blueprint?

The Resilient Rivers Blueprint is a framework to assets, plan and build river resilience, while providing a platform to connect people on their river journeys to share knowledge and experiences.

The Blueprint has been developed with the founding partners to outline a pathway to achieve resilience of rivers – its basins and communities. The Blueprint is used to guide the development of Resilient Rivers Roadmaps for river basin organisations worldwide. River basin organisations from around the world are invited to become signatories to the Blueprint, identifying their commitment to developing river basin-specific roadmaps in their respective areas/regions.

What is the difference between a Blueprint Signatory and a Member?

Signing up to be a BluePrint signatory means that your organisations information will appear on our signatory map. It means that you can share case studies, news and stories with us about what you are doing in your river basin. It also means that you are open to sharing your learnings with the hub community. You have full access to all of the knowledge hub resources as well as the ability to contribute.

As a member, your information does not appear on the signatory page, you will have access to all resources including the ability to post in the forum, however you will not have the option to upload or contribute to the case studies or news and events sections of the hub.

Who is eligible to sign up as a signatory?

Anyone who represents an organisation with an invested interest in a particular river or river basin can sign up to be a signatory.
