17 Aug Driving Accelerated Investment into our Waterways
Environmental Markets have an important role to play in accelerating the transition to a sustainable future.
In January the IRF hosted an Environmental Markets workshop where an expert panel identified opportunities for attracting and creating new revenue sources to reduce our carbon footprint, increase biodiversity and urban greening, and improve waterway health, Â
Building upon this workshop, in August the IRF and Brisbane City Council hosted a thought leadership think tank and forum, convening industry leaders from government, corporate, and community sectors to discuss and develop innovative mechanisms to attract investment to help fund regional waterway rehabilitation.
Event outcomes will support the development of innovative funding mechanisms for waterway rehabilitation and lead into special session topics on Environmental Markets at the upcoming 26th International Riversymposium (IRS). There is much to be achieved, but by working together and embracing innovative market solutions, we can accelerate action towards healthy and resilient rivers for future generations.
